Losing a pet is never easy and your friends at Elmhurst Animal Care Center understand.

As veterinary professionals, we have pets of our own and we have all experienced a painful loss of a cherished companion animal. Grief and loss are sometimes surprising emotions when a pet has passed, a sudden reminder of how much this animal friend has contributed to our lives and the empty place they are leaving behind. This grief is natural and expected after such a loss, especially for close family members.

Dealing with the grief of children is sometimes a challenge too—that youngster who never remembered to fill the water bowl or hated taking the dog for walks can be surprisingly overwhelmed by this loss. It is certainly understandable if you feel confused, concerned about your feelings, or wondering how to deal with the emotional fragility of others during such a period of loss.

EACC Pet Loss Packet—Elmhurst Animal Care Center has compiled a variety of resources and information appropriate to our clients, including articles such as Talking to Children about Pet Loss, Common Grief Symptoms, and Coping with the Loss of a Pet.

Online Pet Loss Library—This resource gives you answers to your frequently asked questions about grieving after the death of a pet and allows you to share the experiences of others.

Online Pet Memorials—We invite our clients to share memorials of deceased pets, including videos, pictures, captions, and guest books.
